Set within the ancient African civilization of Bagadune, SANKOFA challenges participants to collaborate in unraveling secrets and understanding the past. With its message of empowerment and cultural reconnection, the performance invites the audience to explore their inner strength while forging a hopeful path toward the future.
Outcome of the experiment
SANKOFA marked a significant first step in the development of a multiplayer VR experience that blends immersive storytelling with real-time audience interaction. By enabling participants to engage with each other within a shared virtual space, the project laid the groundwork for future collaborative VR environments. This foundational work not only enhances the performance itself but also opens the door for other creators to build upon and adapt the technology for their own immersive, culturally-rooted experiences.
About the Technology
SANKOFA is an immersive experience that blends VR technology with narrative storytelling rooted in Afro-futurism. Drawing inspiration from First Noble's literary work 'HISTORY OF THE WORLD, L'HISTOIRE DU MONDE', the performance uses high-resolution VR to craft a vibrant and interactive world where participants can engage deeply with the story and each other.
